When it comes to indulging in authentic barbecued delights, Andy Nelson's Barbecue Restaurant & Catering stands as a beloved institution in Cockeysville, Maryland. This charming barbecue haven, located at 11007 York Rd, invites you to experience a taste of the South, right in your neighborhood. With a phone call away at +1 410-527-1226, you can reserve your spot at this local favorite and dive into their mouthwatering menu.

The heart of Andy Nelson's lies in its smoky barbecue offerings, which feature a variety of BBQ combo platters that are sure to make your taste buds sing! One standout is Betty's Memphis Double, featuring a half slab of Memphis-style ribs paired with your choice of another BBQ meat for just US$33.98. For those with bigger appetites, Grandpa Guy’s Trifecta is a must-try, showcasing a delicious half slab of ribs along with two additional BBQ meats for US$41.68. And let’s not forget the classic Memphis Style Rib Platters, where you can savor everything from a full slab to a tantalizing 3 bone platter. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food, making it a fantastic value for barbecue enthusiasts.

Atmosphere plays a crucial role at Andy Nelson's. The restaurant boasts a welcoming, down-home vibe that feels reminiscent of a vintage Southern kitchen. The walls are adorned with nostalgic photographs, and the lively oldies music sets a cheerful backdrop as you enjoy your meal. Local patrons have praised the friendly service, ensuring every visitor feels right at home. One customer notes, "food was excellent with lots of flavor… the atmosphere was really cool," which perfectly captures the essence of dining here.

Of course, the star of the menu is undoubtedly the ribs. Their dry-style ribs have received acclaim for being “fall off the bone” tender and full of flavor. Even those who have experienced a mixed bag with other items on the menu, like the brisket—which some found to be on the drier side—reflect the passion and dedication that the chefs put into their barbecue. Leonard Prencipe, a frequent guest, attests that while the brisket may not be Texas-style, the superb pork ribs and the “best cornbread I’ve ever had” make it worthwhile.

Additionally, if you’re looking for a meal that embraces Southern comfort, the Smokehouse Dixie Chicken Platters provide scrumptious options ranging from quarter chicken pieces to a satisfying half chicken. Each dish is crafted to embody the rich tradition of Southern cooking, as seen in their collard greens and homemade sides like macaroni and cheese and cornbread, which have made loyal fans among guests.

So whether you're a local or just visiting, make sure to stop by Andy Nelson's Barbecue Restaurant & Catering for an unforgettable dining experience. With its delectable food, inviting atmosphere, and friendly staff, it's not merely a meal; it's a celebration of barbecue love that's hard to forget.

We've been here numerous times and although they do have superb pork ribs and the best cornbread I've ever had i must admit I'm a bit disappointed in the brisket i know it's ok for maryland but not even close to texas style.

This place is great! Their ribs (especially the dry style, which I liked best) were excellent and the atmosphere feels very southern cooking. They don't even have a fryer basket in the joint, which is awesome by me! More authentic that way. The ribs were fall off the bone, delicious, and we'll done. The staff were very friendly, prices are reasonable, and food tasty. What more could you ask for? 10/10 would recommend!

I’ve been here once a very long time ago and I was so excited to try it again because I remembered it being so good. I got the wet ribs, brisket, collards, Mac and cheese, corn bread, coleslaw, and sweet tea. The flavor of the ribs were great but I didn’t like that the meat itself was on the dryer side. I was slightly confused about the brisket. It was cut super thin, and very very dry even though the container the brisket came in seemed full of water. The brisket also didn’t really have any flavor. I really enjoyed the collard greens, coleslaw, the sweet tea, and the corn bread though. The Mac and cheese was just not the type of Mac and cheese I like. Overall it was ok just wish the proteins had a little more love.

Food was excellent with lots of flavor. Definitely a homemade food experience I can taste the love. Atmosphere was really cool, lots of old photos from the old days, the oldies music gives it that vintage touch. The staff was very friendly, we will definitely be back!

The barbecue is some of the best I've found in Maryland. The Greens are AMAZING! The staff are very pleasant, friendly and attentive. One word: Damn good food!? Ok I lied, that's more than one word. It once u taste the ribs you will understand! Get there! Get some. Well worth it!

This MD local establishment has graced the Baltimore area with superb BBQ for decades, while providing laid back seamless service. I had the sliced brisket sandwich, Baked Beans, and Mac. The sandwich goes well with the Bama sauce, and the Baked beans were smoky and had diced red and green peppers. The homemade lemonade was also delicious, not too sweet, not to tart.
